How do you stay calm during plane takeoffs?

They have just never bothered me at all. I suggest sitting back, closing your eyes, and imagining yourself someplace that you find comforting, sort of like self hypnosis.

taking off is the easiest part of the flight.

The engines are RUN UP prior to take off to make sure [again and again]

that they are running at peak efficiency. Fewer than 1/100 of 1% of

airplanes have troubles during take off--those few that do are

very small ones and they have problems when they violate FAA regs;

they are supposed to return to their airport.

When my planes take off [when I am a passenger]--I am excited. I

start out the window and guess when the plane will start its tilt

and heat upwards........and I love watching it bank to the right or left

based on the commands from the control tower.

I have read 26 books on flying. Air line pilots in the US have extensive

training, fly well maintained planes and know how to control a plane

under all circumstances.

I consider a plane at take off just like a car at take-off. Both use

a lot of energy and the plane uses more components of

physics--thrust, lift, drag......and it has 25-50% more power than

it needs.

to me, watching the process out the windows gives the passenger

a greater level of control.
