The same way any other airplane flies. Airplanes have lifting surfaces - the wings and the tail. The faster you move air past them, the more lift you get. A 747-400ER has a maximum takeoff weight of 910,000 pounds; if you move the plane fast enough to generate enough lift to counteract that much weight, it will fly.
