An airplane cannot stop in mid-air. The wings require a certain amount of forward airflow in order to generate lift. When the airplane slows below this speed, the wings no longer produce lift and the aircraft falls. This is called a "stall".

When the airplane stalls, and begins to fall it rapidly increases airspeed, the airplane automatically weather vanes into the wind, and the airplane flies again.

An airplane CAN have a zero ground speed and produce zero forward movement when the wind is faster then the stall speed of that aircraft. An old pilot trick for airshows many years ago was to take off on windy days and land in the same location. This can only be done on windy days with aircraft that have slow stall speeds.

A fixed wing aircraft would never desire to be at zero ground speed in any circumstance that I can imagine. In rare situations it could be there for a brief period, but the pilot would be very interested in changing that situation.

Does the word airplane have the long e sound?

Yes, the word "airplane" contains the long "a" sound, but it does not have a long "e" sound. The pronunciation of "airplane" emphasizes the "air" with a long vowel sound, while the "plane" part ends with a short "a" sound. Thus, the word does not include a long "e" sound at all.

Does the air above the airplane move faster than the air below the airplane?

That's true for the airplane's wings, when the airplane is flying upright.

Can an airplane stay in the sky?

I am going to assume that aeroplane=airplane when I answer this. An airplane stays in the air by generating lift on its wings. As long as an airplane can generate sufficent lift it can stay in the air. However once the lift being generated falls below what is required for the plane to stay up... uh oh.

Who invented the first flying airplane and how long did it stay in the air?

Orville wright and Wilbur Wrigt and stayed in the air for 12 seconds

How is an aeroplane able to stay in the air if it is heavier than air?

Yes, as long as the surface area of the airplane was large enough to make the force of air resistance balance with the force of gravity or if the airplane is moving at a fast enough speed to make the air resistance balance with gravity.

Does airplane have a short e sound?

No. The AI have a caret A sound (air) and the second A is long. The E is silent.

What flies farther a airplane or hot air balloon?

the airplane will fly farther. This is due to the fact that both the airplane and the hot air balloon use fuel. Also because the hot air balloon only means of movement is wind, While an airplane use jet propulsion. This allows the airplane to travel in any direction
