An airplane is made of millions of small parts. The wings, have the same function as a bird. The tail, or rudder, keeps the plane stable, and also helps with turning the plane sideways without having to bank (roll the plane to turn it). The elevators, are the small "wings" on each side of the tail, are the elements that make the plane pitch up, and pitch down. The ailerons, are the plates that come up of the wings, make the plane bank. The flaps/slats, is a function that slows the plane for landing, and also helps the plane from going to fast during take- off.
