The first powered flight attempt is attributed to the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, who achieved success on December 17, 1903, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Their first flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. The second notable attempt was made by Alberto Santos-Dumont in 14-bis on October 23, 1906, in Paris, France, where he flew a heavier-than-air machine for about 60 meters. Both events were pivotal milestones in the History of Aviation.
