Chesley B. Sullenberger is most famous for landing flight 1549 US AIRWAYS in the Hudson River on Jan. 15th, 2009. A flock of birds hit the planes engines. With both engines out, unable to fly back to the airport, pilot "sully" decided to land it in the river. All passengers were saved. Sullenberger is now a well known American hero.
155 passengers were aboard US Airways Flight 1549 that landed in the Hudson River on January 15th, 2009. The cause of the crash was due to the planes colliding with a flock of geese just minutes after takeoff. The pilot talked to air traffic controllers, asking if he could turn around and land again, or fly to the nearest airport in New Jersey, but then he decided his plane couldn't make it because both the engines failed due to birds getting stuck in both. It was then that he came on the intercom and told the passengers "Brace for heavy impact."
