Why aren't liquids allowed on airplanes?

All liquids aren't allowed on airplanes, because the airport security can't determine whether a liquid is explosive. For example, the X-ray machine can't tell a difference between water and nitroglycerine.

The x-ray machine can’t always tell what a liquid is. liquid soap could also be some kind of explosive in a soap container. as well as water. It could be drugged or be a danger hazard in the air. It does sound annoying, can’t bring your own water,liquid soap, purfume and really any liquid, but it’s for your safety and others.
