1988 ford ranger XLT 4x4 touch drive and after putting it into 4 wheel drive it won't turn off any idea?

ours did the same thing, you have to really push the button very hard. it almost feels like its going to break it. the connection inside the module is not making the connection. i took ours apart and a plastic piece had broken
