It's not fun. Look at the upper radiator hose, where it curves to the engine behind the alternator.
Drain your coolant, loosen the alternator support bracket and move the alternator away as much as you can. The thermostat is hidden down there.
Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, it is under that housing.
