The spark on a 99 Taurus is initiated by the computer, when it receives inputs from the cam and crank sensor telling it the engine is turning. Once the computer receives these signals from the sensors, it sends an electrical signal to the ignition module, which fires the coil packs sending spark through the plug wires to the spark plugs. If there is no spark, one of the links in the chain is broken. Usually, it ends up being either the cam or crank sensors, or the ignition module or coil packs. Rarely is it ever the computer.
