And you still have a skip? Probably a bad injector.
A Chevy 409 distributor rotor rotates clockwise.
The spark travels from the coil to the distributor then from the distributor to the plugs. So if you have spark going into the distributor but not coming out to the plugs, I would blame the distributor cap and rotor being at fault.

bad distributor cap would be first choice, next would be the rotor button in distributor.then the coil
Distributor cap, rotor, plug wires or spark plugs could do that. Time for a tune up.

Take the distributor cap off and it will be bolted with 2 SMALL bolts to the distributor plate. It will have 2 electrical connectors pluged into it. Remove the rotor button and it will be easy to get to.
