The plug, wire or coil could be the problem.
Usually if the injector is failing you will get different codes.
I just replaced plugs and wires from a 2002 and they were in very bad condition. The van had 90,000 or so miles on it. When these were changed it ran like a new van.
The back three plugs were just awesome. (sarcastic) That is another issue though. Good luck. See "Related Questions" below
To remove the number 4 fuel injector on a 2002 3.8-liter Ford Windstar, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Then, remove the intake manifold, as access to the fuel injectors is limited. Once the manifold is off, disconnect the electrical connector from the injector and the fuel line. Finally, use a socket or wrench to remove the retaining clip and pull the injector out from the fuel rail.
Fuel injectors, cleaning, replacing and trouble shooting are some of the important services that should be provided on a Ford Windstar.
where is the #5 injector? how long does it take to fix
1) Have vehicle scanned to determine which cylinder is misfiring 2) Does vehicle have C.O.P. (coil on plug)? usually a bad ignition coil on that cylinder 3) Remove spark plug from that cylinder and do a compression test to determine if problem is internal to the engine (bad valve or ring).
#6 cylinder is at the right-front of the engine. See "Related Questions" below for more Cylinder numbering 1 2 3 4 5 6 <front of vehicle>
To clean the fuel injectors in a 2003 Ford Windstar 3.8, you can use a fuel injector cleaning kit that connects to the fuel rail. First, relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the fuel line and attach the cleaning kit as per the manufacturer's instructions. Start the engine and allow the cleaning solution to flow through the injectors until the canister is empty. Finally, reconnect the fuel line and check for any leaks before starting the engine again.
Other causes include injector, coil, wiring, and internal engine problems.
To replace the fuel injectors on a 2001 Ford Windstar, first disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve fuel system pressure. Remove the intake manifold to access the injectors, disconnect the electrical connectors, and unscrew the retaining clips or bolts securing the injectors. After removing the old injectors, lubricate the O-rings of the new injectors with engine oil, install them, and reassemble the manifold and electrical connections before reconnecting the battery. Lastly, check for any leaks and ensure proper operation.

Fuel injectors are not a 'wear item', meaning you don't replace them on a schedule - replace them when - IF - they fail.Surprisingly, injectors are not a common failure on today's engines. A lot like the Engergizer bunny, they just keep going.
