Make sure the axel nut is off if there is one, loosen the bleeder valve, then use a "hammer" if necessary! :-))
First thing, drum brakes have a brake shoe, not a pad. There should be a slot on the back side that lines up with the star adjuster or automatic adjuster, same thing. The adjuster can be rolled back to let the shoes retract. The shoes have worn into the drum and left a ridge on the edge. That is why the drum will not come off. You can pry on opposite sides, back and forth to possible get past the ridge. It will do no good to loosen the bleeder screw, the adjustment is strictly mechanical. Sometime you can rotate the drum while pulling out on it. This will cause the drum to screw off of the shoes.

To adjust a brake caliper tool, you typically turn it clockwise to compress the piston for disc brake installation or maintenance. This allows the brake pads to fit over the rotor more easily. Always ensure you're following the specific instructions for your vehicle, as some systems may have unique requirements.
Bleed your brake system when you are finished working on the calipers. I recommend getting a book on your car because it is not necessary to open the brake lines to install new pads. A simple pad replacement will ot require a bleeding, just a big C-clamp top compress the caliper.
i take it you have a leak. it will be the master cylinder fix it quick and check your brake fluid now it will be low. if you let it run out no brakes.
