Answer 1: heck yes you name it, it can be done to a fiero Answer 2: No, not the four cylinder, not in any noticeable way. It was designed as a sporty economy car, and canny GM engineers already implemented any worthwhile performance perks. The crankshaft is too light to take any meaningful horsepower increase and the rear end won't handle the increased torque from a larger engine. You'd have to change both the engine and the rear end and then you wouldn't really have a Fiero. On the other hand, my '87 four cylinder will do 116mph, which is plenty enough to get you in trouble, gets 27mpg, looks good, and the handling is great. The 6 cylinder is plenty fast already, but yes, you can turbocharge it, supercharge it, nitrous inject it, drop in a small V8, whatever you want. Just remember it does no good to beef up your engine if your transmission can't handle the increased torque.
