There is no such thing as and air-conditioner accumulator in an automobile. A nonworking air-conditioner compressor can cause a cooling malfunction.
You probably have malfunctioning blower fans. A blown fuse can cause your blower fans to malfunction. The heat and air conditioning cooling is not being forced into the passenger cabin.

Check the following.............. 1. Freon level. 2. Bad accumulator and expansion tube. 3. Bad blend door/doors. 4. Stuck thermostat. 5. Bad cooling fans/fan clutch.........
There isn't a rear accumulator. There is a rear orfice tube and evaporator.

Is it possible that it was steam and not smoke? If the AC freezes up, it will stop cooling until it thaws. Then, it will being to operate again.

A. you are probably out of Refridgerant in your AC B. you probably have a leak in your AC compressor and lost all of your refridgerant
