You can if you want, After you modify the crossmember and get a drive-shaft made for it. Then after you spend about $200.00 to do that then you will find out that the ENGINE WON'T RUN RIGHT.

That year truck if it is a 1/2 ton MUST HAVE a 1996 or 1997 4L60E transmission put back in it. If it is a 3/4 ton then you MUST use the 4L80E transmission in it. These are THE ONLY TWO YEARS THAT WILL WORK.

ALL this trouble BECAUSE of the PCM / Powertrain control module / COMPUTER. Stops you from changing the factory transmission. The GOVERNMENT don't want us the PEOPLE Modifying are vehicles.
