yes.. i have a 99 grand am gt come stock 3400 and i put a 3100 in it.. runs perfect..
i can answer that one the 3400 out of a 2000 grand am will slap right in. there are afew others including the 3400 out of the avalanche
if you are looking to do an engine swap,it is a bad choice, the 3300 is from the 92-93 grand am and does not directly fit. the 3300 is a 90 degree V6 engine like the 3800,you are much better to go with the 3100 that is standard in any V6 grand am from 1994 till 1998. The 3100 is a 60 degree V6, as is the 3.4 engine in the more modern grand am. Even the 3400 could be a difficult job,if you are very mechanically inclined you could do a 3300 swap yourself, but i am told that it is about 100 hours labour to put the 3800 into a grand am and the 3300 would be a very similar job.
not positive on a 3100 grand am motor, but for fact a buick 3800 six cylinder can be fitted. i don't know if you need to change the trans or not, but with some engine mount modifications it should be an easy swap.
Yes it is and its the easyest to do.
I added a link for you to check out. It's not a direct swap, but yes it can be done fairly easily. This is for a 3400 in a Sunbird/Cavalier, but most of the information will pertain to your Grand Am also.
Yes. But if you're going through all the trouble, why settle for a 3100 SFI when you can swap in a 3400 SFI? Fits like a glove! Go to 60degreev6.com for more info.
This swap is not recommended, and does not have any benefit. The 3800 engine is superior to the 3400 engine in every way. Replacement would be complicated and costly, you're better off to buy a vehicle that already has a 3400 in it, if that's really what you want.
depends on the size of the engine and the components that come with it.
You can do the swap but you must change evrything along with the ECM,wire harness, trans and engine cradle. This is a $12,000 swap.
yes you can swap a 2.5 in to 2.7 but u will loose some power from
the motor it self is the same but you will have to change most of he sensors, the pugs are different, and the egr plug is different so i changed the plentum on top of the motor to make it easier, this was my first engine swap and it started on the first try.i took a 3100 out of a 94 se and put it in m 97 gt.
you can do the swap to the 3400, the 3.1 and the 3.4 can use the same tranny, but there are a few parts from the 3.1 in which you will be needing to use, look on v6z24 or j-body.org for full details
