after spending 1500.00 on repairing all the sensors, checking the fuel pressure, the injectors, o2 sensors, replacing the fuel pump and filters, we came to the conclusion the valve springs are not holding up when under a load. in other words, i have a regular throttle response up to 3-3500 rpm then it goes into limp mode with nearly no added power from that point on. mind you, my truck has well over 300,000 miles on it and most has been towing.. the 8.1 /allison has been amazing ! horrible mileage but, i didnt buy it for that. i bought for work and work it does !
it still pulls nearly400 ft-lbs of torque but alas, wont do much after 3500 rpm now. 60 psi in the fuel rails, new injectors and still no improvement above 3500. the cam and crank sensors are checking ok , all other options have been explored so far.. i've even had to repair the cheesey short loom connectors at the ecu and tcm... everything checks out ok.. if theres anyone out there that can tell what im missing, PLEASE DO !! this has been a beast of a truck and i will repair it before i replace it. everything works and i use it everyday.. even now till i get the new motor in it. i cant find anything else to blame this issue on but weak valve springs....it want to run but feels like its being starved for fuel and its not.
NEW ANSWER: reduced engine power means that the engine is over heating / running to hot. When that happens the ECM / engine control module shuts the fuel off to a few different cylinders. That then cools the engine back down so it don't damage it. And yes it won't run very good. Check radiator, thermostat, fan clutch. Also make sure the radiator is not building pressure in it when engine is running. If it is then you have a cylinder head or head gasket problem and the cooling system is air locking itself and over heating.
The engine power reduced light will turn on in Chevrolet HHR when a failure is detected in one of the sensors or engine components. An OBD II code reader can determine the cause and help with making repairs.

gmc serra engine power reduce, can't drive no power
It is reducing engine power because a sensor dictated a serious problem and to keep the engine from damaging itself it'll go to engine power reduced stage and it vibrates because its at a rough idle
The reduced engine power light means that there is a problem with the battery or power system. It almost always means a battery connection issue.
