I had the same problem with my 01 Monte. I went to school for auto body, i am very smart, and I couldn't figure it out. I took things apart, have the factory manual etc. One holiday I was going home from my sisters house and my wife said that my rear lights were out. For months they were off and it made sense. People were allways flashing me with high beams driving next to me making gestures and I thought they were trying to F@#K with me but all along they were trying to tell me this. DUH!
LOng story short there is a fuse on the passenger side.. when you open the passenger door, there is a fuse panel. Its the 4 th fuse more than likely, starting from the bottom going up, but check those fuses, I know I did before for a fact but, it was infact blown when I carefully inspected it later.. it was a very small burn, but that was it. For some reason the passenger fuses come loose due to vibrations. Good luck Man.

Bad dash light, or dimmer fuse. Or a bad dimmer switch itself

I have the same problem with mine. What I have been able to learn is that it is possibly related to a dimmer switch located just under the dashboard with the roller-wheel and/or the "flash-to-pass" dimmer switch located on the steering column. You can try replacing the one on the steering column to see if that fixes the problem. If it is the dimmer switch under the dash, you will have to strip one out of a used vehicle somewhere or order it directly from Ford as it is a manufacturer's part only.

The trip odometer switch on the odometer itself is the dimmer on Toyota Sienna. If you turn this switch all the way to the left your panel would become dark. Simply turn the switch to the right and all panel lights would come on. I had a similar problem and the manual bailed me out.
