Did you use the correct weight oil? Did you install a quality filter? If you know you used the correct weight oil, just change the filter and install a Purolator or Wix filter. Add enough oil to top off after starting and running for 30 seconds to allow oil to fill the new filter. If you are not sure about the oil, change it again and make sure to use the correct weight.
Low oil level, low oil pressure, failed internal component, etc.
You should change the oil in a Dodge Dakota every 3000 miles.

from which part of your engine is the ticking noise coming from. if is the TOP it would most likely be lifter noise.try using a thicker oil.
how to change oil pressure switch in 2001 Dodge Intrepid I need to look at a diagram
The ticking sound is coming from the valve lifters. When the oil filter is changed, air is introduced into the system, which causes air bubbles to form in the oil. This causes the valve lifters to "leak down", which is what causes the ticking sound. It can take several days for the bubbles to dissipate. It's annoying, but harmless.
It depends on the oil filter.
CHANGE YOUR OIL NOW AND EVERY 3000 MILES!
A 2001 Intrepid does not have an oil change light.
