CD players were a luxury item at that time - so this was a option at the time of ordering and purchasing the car.
Short answer: not all Sables have the CD player.
If it did, you'll find it in the back left corner of the trunk.

The 2001 Mercury Sable does come with a CD player. If the car does not have a CD player in it, an install kit can be purchased to install a CD player.

If you have a center console, that is where you will find it. If there is no center console it is in the trunk.
