I added some coolant to bring it up to the add line...vehicle hadn't been started all day. I will take it out tomorrow and see if it continues to do this. I may need to get a new thermostat. There is no "EASY" wayThe best way to change the main in engine compartment cooling hoses, not the heater hoses:Jack up the rear of the car high enough that you can work on the front of the engine from below. You will also need to lift the front of the car, this is so you have room underneath to drain the radiator.Drain the engine block and radiator, there is a drain plug on the engine block and the bottom of one of the radiator tanks.Replace the hoses, you will want new clamps just to be sure. It will probably be easiest to change all three from underneath but one end of the upper hose will need to be undone and reconnect to the thermostat housing from above.Once the hoses are changed you will need to refill the cooling system. Put the car to a level position. Remove the radiator cap, thermostat cap and thermostat under it.Fill the cooling system from the engine thermostat housing and put the radiator cap back on once the coolant is full there. Top up the coolant into the thermostat housing. Do not put the thermostat back in but do put the cap on the thermostat housing. Start and run the engine from 15 seconds to 30 seconds. Remove the thermostat cap again CAREFULLY! Top up the coolant and install the thermostat and put the cap on.Go for a drive, be careful to watch the engine tempurature! We may still have an air lock and cause an over heat.

These thermostats are located under the housing where the lower radiator hose attaches to engine.Do not skimp here get thermostat from Subaru dealer this will avoid throttling of the thermostat which often happens with some aftermarket thermostats.---i.e. engine going up in temp then cool down every 2 minutes while cool out This cases excessive wear of the head gaskets among other things.Be sure that the spring end is towards engine.Also be sure one of the little cutouts in the O ring for gasket is lined up with the checkball weight in thermostat.Remove the plastic screw in top of radiator,this will aid in bleeding when refilling radiator.Fill radiator slowly be patient coolant has to flow around the checkball in thermostat.rapid filling will cause ball to shut.After topped start engine and run for 10 seconds,turn off,refill again.Bring recovery tank to full mark.Reinstall plastic screw in radiator,radiator cap.Start engine bring to normal temp upper radiator hose will be hot when this temp is achieved.Stop engine allow to cool top radiator once more

many people will tell you many diffrent causes. such as a blown head gasket,bad thermostat,and bad water pump. but i will say its a trapped air bubble. if for any reason your radiator or resivoir has went down air got into your system. take cap off resv. start car and turn heat on..let it run for 15 minutes. after 15 minutes squeeze and hold for about 10 seconds the top radiator hose that runs from the radiator to the thermostat houseing. it will be hot if thermostat is working so use a rag or towel...this should force air bubble out....you may need to repeat this several times over a couple of days. once done be sure to add coolant because after air exits it will drop some.

Removing the radiator is a pain. Worse it trying to replace it. I bought three of them, sent two back, and saw that the third was almost right. The one that I kept I brought to a radiator shop and the core was a close enough match that they were able to use it to fix the old radiator and I put it back in the car. If you want to flush it, just use a flush machine. If you want to drain and fill, it's like any other car. With any 60 degree GM V6 look for as many as two bleeder valves, and consider using a vacuum fill tool to prevent damaged cylinder heads. If you want to drain and fill a 2.5L I4 engine, filling is special: Do not remove the radiator cap. This it important. 1)Remove the thermostat housing cap. Remove the thermostat, then add coolant though the opening. 2)Put the cap on, then start the engine and let it idle for about 15 seconds and shut it off. 3)Remove the thermostat housing cap, top off the antifreeze, then install a new thermostat. Put the cap on. 4) Check and correct fluid level in the overflow bottle.
