Usually, you put in 4 quarts and then start the car. Then with your foot on the brake, slowly shift from park to reverse, to n, to d, to 2, & to 1. Then from 1 to 2, to D, to N, to R, to P, waiting a second or two in each gear. Then check the fluid again with the engine running, in park, and see how much more you need to add. It shouldn't need too much more.
Fluid needed after filter change is normally about five quarts.

The capacity with a filter change is 4.1 Qts.
The fluid capacity, of your Allison transmission, is 28 quarts. The filter will take and additional pint. The manufacturer recommends that you do not over fill the transmission.

The 1992 Buick Regal transmission has a fluid capacity of 6.3 quarts. You can check the transmission fluid level with the transmission dipstick.

For a complete drain and fill, the capacity is about 16 quarts. If just doing a filter change, the capacity is closer to 7 quarts.
