Tony O^Ng CO.p here: I didn't understand the profile setup so I kind of skipped that, but here it tis, off the cuff. I have three Taurus's , 91 sedan, 91 SW, 96 GL and a 91 Sable all with 3.0 engine. I'm an AV8'er and have been a fixed-wing and rotor-wing mechanic, so I'm acquainted with how to turn a wrench. My DOB is 07-02-1927 that makes me be 81 next month. I continue to work for the USAF in their EW-Avionics Shop. I like what I do. I have a CGS Hawk Classic Ultra-Lite and a 2300 foot airstrip on my farm. I'm a Gun collector and Deer hunter. I didn't do too good on the farm but I got two Bucks with my Taurus last year. The '96 is the one that I'm having trouble with, the AX4N transmission. Shifts fine in Drive and Overdrive, but no Reverse or Manual 1st gear. I've checked all the solenoids, they are working (although the reverse gear is non-electric) I had both pans off, no metal chips or trash. Still doesn't work. Can anyone help me? Cheers, Tony O^Ng CO.p
Yes I can help you, Go to Transtar Industries.com ,click on view catalog,in lefthand payne select 2008 at catalog then look for ford then select that, scroll down to ax4n/4f50n select that one and agree to down ax4n catalog in PDF format and then you will see all of your internals of that transmission!
If you have the AX4N it will have 19 bolts, if you have AX4S (also known as AXOD) it will have 17. - In most cases both pans are stamped with the AX4S or AX4N.
Yes, you can interchange the AX4N transmission between a 2003 Ford Windstar and a 2004 Ford Freestar, as both vehicles use the same transmission model. However, it's important to verify compatibility regarding any specific electronic connections or hardware differences. Additionally, ensure that the transmission mounts and any related components are suitable for both vehicles during the swap. Always consult a professional mechanic or a repair manual for detailed guidance.

In order to obtain the security code for the Reverse Dolby NRB radio in a 1996 Ford EF Station Wagon, you will need to contact the dealership. Usually, the security code is found in the manual. If the manual is not handy, a local Ford dealership can assist with the unlocking procedure.
My 1995 Mercury Sable with 3.0L has that trany in it. So I'd say yes
They've had the manual transmission option always. I believe 1991 was the first model year.
The 1998 Ford Taurus Owner Guide shows : Motorcraft MERCON - V , automatic transmission fluid For the AX4N and AX4S automatic transaxles
According to the 1999 Ford Taurus Owner Guide : ( Motorcraft MERCON - V ) is used in both the AX4N and the AX4S automatic transaxles / transmissions
Fuse 12 - a 15V. I have a 150 wagon. Couldn't find the listing in the owner's manual, but I have an OEM shop manual and it listed fuse # 12 as the backup lights.
