For a peice of mind I usually start by taking mine into Belle tire for a free front end inspection just in case it's not a brake issue. You usually get an estimate of what they think it is, and as long as it's not front end related you can go right to your brakes. A shimmy in the front end is typically a sign your brake rotors are starting to or are warped. With that said, if it is your rotor it should feel more like a pulsation in your brake pedal as well. If you have'NT changed your brake pads in a while you should do a front brake inspection. Look for pad thickness and any obviuos wear in the thickness of the rotor. You should be able to have your rotors machined at a local auto store and put a new set of pads on. I would recommend Raybestos or Bendix. Make sure you you use a torque wrench for the final tightinig on your lug nuts. Uneven lug nut pressure can cause premature rotor warping. Good luck.
