replace the tie rod ends
Remove the boot covering the end of the steering rack, There should be a thin flat washer between the tie rod and the steering rack that is flattened over the end of the inner tie rod end. Pry up the flattened points, unscrew the tie rod and reinstall.
on a steering rack the inner tie rod is threaded and will be the mount for the outer tie rod.
Look under the front end of the car. You will find round bars, or rods going horizontally from the steering gear to the wheel spindle / steering knuckle assemblies on both sides. Those are the tie rods. There are 2 parts that make up the connecting tie rod: * The inner tie rod connects to the steering 'rack and pinion' assembly on the inside, and to the... * Outer tie rod, aka tie rod 'end' - which then mounts into the backside of the steering knuckle
The removal and replacement of outer tie rods on this application is of moderate difficulty. It will also require a wheels alignment after install which may be best done at a professional shop with an alignment rack. The first step is to lift the vehicle or place it on jack stands safely. The cotter pin should be cut and the tie rod can be removed by a wrench. The outer tie rod is the link between the knuckle and inner steering rod.
