Ford e 250 hard shift

I have a 1995 Ford E-250 4.9L 6cyl van that also hard shifts. I have been researching for a while how to fix this problem. Obviously the first remedy is to make sure your fluid levels are correct and to check the trans oil cooler for leaks. Also, I noticed I had leakage where the trans meets the engine. Sometimes its the trans main seal. Some people tend to drop a bottle of Lucas Stop Slip and hope for the best but this is never a good solution. If you are a weekend garage warrior and you find yourself scratching your head on this one, your best bet would be to bite the bullet and have it inspected by a certified technician. Putting it off will just wear away whatever remaining life the trans may have. Most of the times the trans needs an overhaul.
