what is head bolt torque spec gm 3.1
The first thing we have to know is--what torque? Is it Head bolt torque, rod bolt torque, main cap torque, water bolt torque, or something else? Please specify.
You should measure the diameter of the bolts concerned. The information I have applies to the 250 cc as well as the 100 cc versions of this bike. For the 10 mm cylinder head bolts they torque to 27 to 31 foot-pounds. The 6 mm head bolts torque from 7 to10 foot-pounds. The 8mm cylinder cover bolt should torque from 15 to 20 foot-pounds. Hope this helps. .
exhaust manifold to head nuts are 31 ft. lbs.
Be careful. My Haynes repair manual stated a torque of 85 ft-lbs for front caliper mounting bolts for my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. I tried to torque the bolts that much and ended up breaking the bolt off. This was a hassle to fix and you can't drive your vehicle until it's fixed with a new bolt. I had to take a vacation day to wait for the parts store to order a new bolt and have it delivered. O'Reilly Auto parts said the correct torque is 31 ft-lbs of torque. Their computer did list the same 85 ft-lbs of torque initially but said it was incorrect.
Torque is related to friction and diameter. torque usually is done to achieve a preload stress in the bolt of 50% of its ultimate strength For unlubricatd bolts, T= 0.2DP where D = diamter and P = bolt preload and T = torque Bolt preload stress = P/A where A is stress area of bolt #12 = 0.216 inch diameter, A = 0.024 For standard steel bolts of 80,000 psi strength, P = 1920/2 = 960 pounds T = 41 inch pounds For high strength bolts of 160,000 psi strength, T = 82 inch pounds If bolts are lubricated, use T = 0.15DP T = 31 in lbs standard and 62 inch pounds high strength
According to Haynes Step 1- Tighten 28 to 31 ft lbs Step 2- Tighten an additional 85 to 95 degrees Step 3- Loosen all bolts 360 degrees Step 4- Tighten 28 to 31 ft lbs Step 5- Tighten an additional 85 to 95 degrees Step 6- Tighten an additional 85 to 95 degrees
