Follow the 2 small heater core hoses from the passenger side near the fan motor. About a foot down you will see a small black plastic device with a small gray vacuum hose connected to it. This is the heater control valve. Depending on your model it could have 2, 3, or 4 hoses connected to it. I just replaced mine for around $20. It took 15 minutes to replace. DO NOT WORK ON THIS ITEM WITH A HOT ENGINE!!!

How do you change a 1998 ford ranger heater core?

To change the heater core in a 1998 Ford Ranger, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Remove the dashboard components to access the heater core, which typically involves removing the center console and the dashboard itself. Disconnect the heater hoses from the old heater core, remove the mounting screws, and take out the old core. Install the new heater core by reversing the removal process, reconnect the hoses, and reassemble the dashboard.
