under the carpet of the right front seat
*NOTE* DISCONNECT BATTERY TERMINALS AND REMOVE AIR BAG FUSE IN FUSE BOX FIRST!!!
Remove the passenger side front seat by removing the 4 bolts holding it in place(2 in front 2 in back). You may have to remove some plastic moulding around them. It just pulls off with 1 Phillips head screw on the back side removed. After seat has been removed the sensor is about 3 inches away from the visible plastic air vent under the raised area. You can either cut the carpet away there and fold it back or you can remove the plastic body parts around the door frame and under the dash and passenger kick area to push the carpet back.
When You have the carpet removed you will see a silver box with a yellow warning label that should say something along the lines of Air Bag Module/Sensor blah blah. Pull the black tab out of the yellow clip coming from the wiring harness. This will allow you to press the yellow tab down that the clip was holding up. Press down the clip and wiggle the harness free from the module. You may have to unbolt the sensor from the flooring before doing this if your hand cannot get enough clearance. Plug the new one in and do all steps in reverse order. ~Chickenfloss~

To replace the brake pads on a 96 Grand Am, three tools will be needed. First, a C-Clamp, then a hex key to remove the caliper bolts, and a screwdriver to work the caliper free.
Each computer, (engine, abs, airbag, radio, etc) stores its own memory.
A sensor, no. If that is a feature on a 1996, it is a function of the power door lock system.
