By useing a Good standard measure Tape and have a helper you can easily adjust the Toe in by first loeing up the Collars that connect the tie rods to the drag link losen both bolts on each end of the collars.
then taking a pipe wrench or vise grips and gently Rotate then Collar clockwise to expand the toe in to a toe out posistion or turn Counter clockwise to turn it too a toe in posistion, a toe in Guage on a Front end machine is Nothing more than a measuring stick or Device that reads just like a tape measure would once you set the Toe in to the proper Degree which is most cases a positive + .3 Degrees would be equal to approx 1/8th inch on th etape measure toe >IN . i have used this porceedure for over 55 years and matched it with a Bear alignment machine afterwards and been 100% on the money for accuracy. after you achieve the proper toe in just tighten the bolts on the collars.. and your done.
The factory specified range is .05 degrees to 0.15 degrees.
Toe is adjusted at the outer tie rod.
Zero to 1/8'' toe-in.
Toe in 1/16 of an inch
You take the car to a shop and have an alignment done. You do not have the proper sophisticated tools nor training necessary to adjust the toe on a vehicle.
Adjust rear of car then front of car. Adjust in this order: Caster, Camber, Toe.
To adjust the tow in and tow out you must adjust the tie rods. You must first break loose the nut then twist the tie rod until the right adjustment has been made.
Caster 2 to 4 degrees Camber -1 to 1 degrees Toe 0 to .2 inches
check front caster/camber and toe , and then possibly adjust to within specs.
That sort of depends on what exactly you're trying to just, whether it's camber, caster (which would be a bit more complicated), toe in/toe out, or the handling aspect.
Hi, I have a 1988 Chevy S10 pickup truck with a 2.8L V6. I want to add a tachometer to the piller pod I have. The tachometers I bought thus far wont work as the directions the units included were of no help at all. I tryed toe connections on the coil and the distribater, no luck. NOW WHAT ?? One of the tachs was a digital, no luck with this either. I would like to know what to do. Thank you for your help Mike Souza
The only thing worth attempting at home is toe adjustment. Make a small chalk mark in the center of the tread of each front tire. Measure the distance with a tape measure. Spin the tires 180 degrees so your marks are in the back and measure again. For 0 toe those measurements should match. If they don't, loosen the adjusting sleeves on each outer tie rod and turn them evenly with a pipe wrench until they do. This is still more of a pain than it sounds like. The easiest way to do it where all 3 of your angles and aligned is to take it to a front end shop. Where im from, you'll be good to go for about 45 bucks
