most of the time you turn clockwise to lock and counter clock wise to un lock. to check you can jack up the front end until the tires are off of the ground and turn the hub knob and rotate the tire by hand to see if the axle is also rotating. If axle is rotating you are locked turn knob other way should see the axle stop rotating (unlocked)
Not unless you install locking hubs on the live axles of the vehicle and unlock them.
put it in 4x4, and it does it for you. or install locking hubs for 50 bucks.
There could be a mechanical failure or the hubs could be jammed with dirt and mud. They will most likely need to be taken apart to see where the problem is.

If the hubs are stuck in the lock position you will have to remove them and try to clean them and put fresh grease in them check the springs make shure they are not broken or tenson is gone out of them best idea is to swap them for warn manual hubs as the auto hubs are known for not working properly, i changed mine over to the warn manual locking hubs you can get the kits off e-bay
Locking hubs were not an option on this vehicle as built for the united states. If you truly have them this vehicle needs a mechanic eye to tell you how to replace there are many types pf locking hubs available after market additions
It's just a matter of removing the 6 hex bolts an pull it out. Then, grab the spare hubs and bolt them in. Yea, indeed all Suzuki hubs fit.
About $160 for manual locking hubs from JC Whitney, Chicago
difference between locking and fixed hubs is fixed hubs are driven the whole time this means that the axles and hubs turn as the wheels turn these are engaged at the transmission when needed locking hubs are free wheeling hubs, and when not locked the wheels will turn but the axles are not turning some have a switch inside cab to lock them, some you have to get out of vehicle and manuelly lock the hub at the hub these hubs when unlocked will not drive when transmission is engaged,

In most cases just buying a new set of hubs. The automatic hubs are spring loaded and have an internal locking mechanism that works with the axle as to manual which just locks on to the axle when you turn the dial . Very easy swap just make sure the manual hubs are for your vehicle .
