Using a set of a/c gauges put the blue hose on the low side (suction side) and the red hose on the high side (discharge side)........
Start the recharging process remembering to keep the low side readings between 30 to 40psi and the high side between 200 to 250psi depending on the outside temperature…………….
This is what I did for my Chevy prism 2000, it works fine: http://www.id-usa.com/how_to_recharging.asp

The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck has two ports on top of the air conditioner compressor. You will add Freon through the low pressure port.
To add freon to a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, first ensure the vehicle is off and the AC is set to the highest setting. Locate the low-pressure service port, which is usually found on the larger diameter aluminum line near the firewall. Attach a refrigerant can with a gauge to the port, then start the engine and the AC. Follow the instructions on the refrigerant can to add the appropriate amount of freon, being careful not to overfill.
It contains no Freon. It contains R134 Refrigerant. If it is low, that means it has a leak. It is illegal to add refrigerant without first repairing the leak. Take it to a professional for repair and recharge.
where do I add freon to my air conditioning unit on a 1997 chevy truck?
Your car contains no Freon R12, it contains R134 which is not Freon. If you need to add refrigerant then you have a leak. It is illegal to add refrigerant without first repairing the leak. Take it to a professional and get the leak repaired.

You can add Freon to your 1999 Chevy cooling system through the low pressure port. Connect your Freon bottle to the low pressure port and release the Freon into the system.
Freon is a very touchy thing to work with. The EPA bans its release into the atmosphere, so only experts and professionals know how to add and subtract Freon from the car safely. Take your car to a mechanic or a Chevy dealer for this.
