Carefully remove the old belt and route the new belt according to the belt routing diagram, usually found on the engine bay. To install an alternator belt on a 2001 Chevy Metro, first, ensure the engine is off and cool. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts to allow for adjustment, then route the new belt around the alternator pulley and the other pulleys according to the belt routing diagram, usually found on a sticker in the engine bay. Once the belt is in place, adjust the alternator to achieve the proper tension, and tighten the mounting bolts securely. Finally, check the belt alignment and tension before starting the engine.
