transmission filters are generally located just inside the transmission oil pan, have to remove pan and drain fluid to change filter.
There is no change transmission lamp.

Well if you're doing your standard fluid/filter change, just measure how much you removed, and replace that much.
The 1998 Mercury Tracer owners manual shows : 4.0 quarts ( 3.8 liters ) with oil filter change
On my 1999 Mercury Tracer, the fuel filter is mounted on the firewall. It's on the driver-side, on the passenger-side of the brake cylinder. I don't know how to get my hands in to change it though. Jonathon
try to change the tranny filter and fluid. worked for me
On a 1997 Mercury Tracer : The AUTOMATIC transmission fluid dipstick would be on the side of the transmission ( transaxle ) in the area of the brake fluid reservoir . The manual transmission ( transaxle ) does not have a dipstick
