Simple. You must remove the trim that goes the entire length of the dash. In my case, this 1998 has it in wood grain. Remove just 2 screws over the instrument panel and carefully pry out the rest of the trim. There are a few push in clips which holds the thin section in front of the passenger seat. Disconnect a few electrical plugs and wiggle this trim out. The center, or inner, AC vent is mounted to the back of this trim piece. Remove a couple more screws and release 8 slip in clips and it is out.
