First unhook the negative battery cable. Then remove the power cable going to the starter. Then I believe it is a 1/2 wrench used to remove the 2 bolts on the starter. It comes out really easy. Then put the new one in the same place and hand tighten the botls as far as possible. Make sure the new starter is flush or it could ruin your flywheel. after the bolts are hand tight tighten them with a wrench and connect the power cord to the starter. Reconnect the battery cable and you're good to go. It took me about 15 min to do it in my 94 explorer XLT. Good luck!

It's possible, but more likely the starter is faulty or wired wrong.
