When you drain the coolant system, there should be a vent at the top of the coolant system you have to bleed. There may be more than one, as I think the 3.1liter lumina has 2. Just look for coolant lines on top of your engine, and with the engine idling open them slightly(one is with a flathead screwdriver I remember) one at a time until coolant starts to come out and shut it tightly. If you don,t do this correctly your car's thermostat will probably say you are running hot, especially on grades, due to a pocket of air at the temp sensor location.
