The 97 and up 5.4 Triton is a pain. It has coil over plugs, meaning each cylinder has its own coil mounted to the plug. Here's the overall on this procedure. First, be prepared to spend the better part of an afternoon. The problem is clearance....especially on the back two cylinders on each side. I had to remove the wire cover mounted on the passenger side of the firewall above the engine and one of the wires in order to get the room I needed. I also had to loosen the fuel rails so I could move them a little to get the socket and extension to slide in. You'll need to remove the plastic engine cover. It's held on with three bolts. Unplug each fuel injector and coil. You'll need the space. It's tight. There is one small bolt...8 mm I think..maybe 10mm that holds each coil on. Remove this bolt. The coil now removes just like a plug wire. Now you can get the socket and extension in. With the way these are down inside the cover, it's a good idea to loosen them a turn then blow them out with some compressed air before completely removing the plug. Install is just a reversal of all this. A couple of things to consider.....this is a pain to do. Use a good set of Platinum plugs. You don't want to be doing this every year. Make sure to use anti-seize lube on the plugs. If you have a lot of miles on it, you might want to go ahead and replace the coils if it hasn't been done before. The coils are expensive. I found a set on eBay that were about 1/4 the price of local and they are working great. Good luck.
