Struts.
The 1999 Toyota Camry has struts on the front and rear of the car.
I have a 92 Toyota Camry (same model as yours) and they have struts on all four.
Actually your Camry has struts but many people refer to them as shocks. Struts are used instead of shocks because they are more effiecient and last longer.
I have a 97 Toyota Camry and was told it would be anywhere from $1000 to $1600 depending on whether I wanted top of the line struts or not.
the struts are replaceable... but not rebuildable. some of the parts from the old struts can be used. struts are just like shocks and will wear out over a period of time. they are not that exspensive and is recommended to let a certified mechanic replace.
Toyota Camry requires 4 struts - 2 front and 2 rear.
Buy a Haynes shop manual for 1997-2001 Toyota Camrys. They're about $15.
shock
Doesn;t have shocks. It has struts. Job best left to a professional. Serious injury can occur if not done correctly. I changed all four STRUTS on my Camry. I rented a spring clamp from a local parts dealer and just followed instructions in the workshop manual. It took quite a while doing it by myself but I did manage
I just had a price quoted to replace the struts on a 1996 Camry: $1050.00. This includes alignment. (Firestone) My 2001 Taurus cost $475 for front struts, rear shocks and alignment at Dobbs. Not sure about a Camry. I recommend to stay away from Firestone. if you know how to do it yourself, it should cost you no more then $200-$300 for both. just goto kragen or autozone for the parts.
NEW SHOCKS OR STRUTS ARE NEEDED.. if not that then the ball joints may be bad or the bearings..
