Note: this job looks hard but is actually very easy it took me 20minutes. But I am an Ase master tech. don't burn yourself on hot coolant pipes like I did, place a towel there to protect your forearm.

Tools/supplies I used: 6" extension 3" extension, 13mm shallow socket 13mm deep socket, ratchet, magnetic pickup tool, 9.6V electric ratchet, 8mm socket, 1/4" drive 4" extension, 1/4" ratchet, surfacing tool for gasket area, silicone spray, penetrant spray,

On the 05 Dakota 4.7L the egr valve is located on the left side of the engine area as you are siting in the vehicle. It is in the back left by the fire wall. It is cylindrical in shape at the top with a connector and wiring going into it. To remove it unplug the wire connector by sliding the red connector lock to the right note: the red lock does not come all the way out it just moves a bit to unlock the connector. now press down on the lever lock on the connector. This may be hard to do because some other components are there blocking full access. work the connector back and forth to free it and pushing on the black lock tab pull it off the egr valve. Note: when installing put silicone spray on it to help it slide on with ease. Now the fun part, there are two bolts to remove in order to totally remove the egr valve. one you can see the other you cant see is between the egr valve and the fire wall. remove the one you can see with a 13mm socket and 6inch extension. Note: locking extensions are nice as to not loose your socket in this tight place, but non locking will work. Now remove the other bolt with a 3inch extension and a deep well 13mm socket. this is the precise length needed to fit in the small space provided. I was using a craftsman deep well. If this doesn't provide the proper space to remove the bold adjust using other size extensions as needed to get your ratchet in there. Now remove the bolt. Note: it will probably fall of onto the bell housing of the transmission. so get your magnet out to pick it up. Note: dont let it fall into the exhaust port for the egr when you do this that would be a bad day for somebody. Note: my new egr from advanced auto came with 2 new bolts so not to worry if you lose one. now that the bolts are removed, spray some penetrant on the pipe into your intake. pull out the pipe with some force, shouldn't need to pry or use tools. now just work the egr out of the engine bay. remove the pipe and clean the gasket surface install new gasket provided with new egr and install the 8mm head bolts. Now pay attention because this is very important in saving time on this job. use the provided gasket and place under egr valve just like it would be installed in the engine. do this before putting it back on the engine. use your two 13mm head bolts and start them through the egr bolt holes and into the gasket, thread them into the gasket a thread or two. Now when holding your egr valve the gasket should dangle as the bolts keep it from falling off. spray silicone on the gasket for the pipe to intake. take the whole assembly and install it. Start the bolt you can see first. use force to hold egr assembly in place as you start the bolt. do not use force to start the bolt in the threads as this will strip your threads out, you should be able to start the bolt by hand with your 6inch extension. use your ratchet and tighten it in a few more turns, now go to the other bolt you cant see, start it by hand, use ratchet, tighten it and move to the first one and tighten that one, check the back one one more time. Clear your check engine code in the ecm via scan tool or go to advanced auto, verify you replaced the faulty component. Repair complete.

Hope this helps.
