Is your car fuel injected (probably) if so the pump is probaby in the fuel tank.
FIRST!!!! Lean how to take a fuel tank apart and reassemble it FIRST!!!
Ck your local library for auto repair resources on line.
Go buy a Haynes Auto Repair manual for your car.
I do not recommend anyone do this unless you have been trained to do it as I have.
But here's how for most vehicles;hopefully the tank is empty, if not you'll wish it was. so go empty it out; put the gas in another car.
NO TOSSING OF TOOLS AROUND THE JOB, NO UN-NESESSARY PEPOLE or dogs around.
You'll need a floor jack to raise and lower the tank. A piece of plywood about the size of the tank might be helpfull between the tank and jack.
Lossen the straps holdijg the tank in place; be carefull of the pad you may find between the tank and the body of the vehicle you'll want to re-use it. Disconnect the fuel filler tube OR you might see a rubber hose connecting the tank to the filler tube; if your tank is empty or almost you can disconnect the filler tube from the tank here, this is way easier if (1) the tank is empty and (2) makes hooking git all up way better too. Drop the tank a little bit and disconnect the wire(s) plug there. Lower the tank to the ground. taking care of the fuel still in the tank and the filler tube as stated before. Using a non-sparking (brass) hammer and non-sparking (brass) flat ended punch unscrew the the tank access, pull the float/pump assembly out; cover the hole in the tank; you'll want to keep trash out of the tank.
Take the float/pump assembly to the auto parts store to compare with what they think goes in there, get the right pump and put it all back together agin, oh yeah NO SMOKING and watch out for creating a spark! re-assemble the tank, raise it up into position don't forget t hook up that wire! Re-install the straps. Oh yeah be careful of the gas filler tube; you may have to snake it around a bit but gingerly casue it's soldered to the tank and it's easy to break that solder joint and yo DON"T WANT to be soldering a fuel tank, very risky and scary!
remove fuel tank.
