I think you mean the lock cylinder.( where you put the key) You begin by unhooking the battery. You have to begin by removing the face plate from the ignition. Then you have to remove the trim from around the dash, you will also have to remove the dimmer controll to the left of the Steering wheel aswell as the 4 way switch from the right of the wheel. The trim will have to be removed from the stereo and heater controll area. You then have to remove the stereo. The next step is to remove the 2 bolts from the front of the ignition. There is a little spring loaded pin on the igntion the holds it in to the housing. You can find this pin on the new igniton. This pin has to be pushed to get the ingition out. Then just plug the new ignition in and put it back together. When it is complete You will have to hook the battery then turn the key to the on posintion, the theft light will begin to flash. You must leave the key in this possition for apx 10 min utill the light goes solid. This is programming the new key to the system. Then start the car.

On a 1999 Chevy Malibu, the trunk key and ignition key are typically the same. Both the ignition and trunk locks are designed to work with the same key, which is a standard feature for many vehicles of that era. However, it's always possible for modifications or replacements to have occurred, so it's best to verify with the specific vehicle in question.
