The 240sx does not use a speedometer cable. It is electronic. The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is located on the transmission. It sends pulses.

AnswerI removed my entire guage cluster and never saw a cable, it was all electronic. not sure if that's where the cable would be, but that's what i found, just three plugs coming out of the cluster.

How do you change a speedometer cable on a 92 Nissan Maxima-what would make it not work?

To change the speedometer cable on a 1992 Nissan Maxima, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal, then remove the instrument cluster to access the cable connection. Unscrew the old cable from the back of the speedometer and from the transmission, then install the new cable in reverse order. A faulty speedometer cable can stop working due to wear and tear, kinks, or damage to the cable, or if the speedometer gear within the transmission is broken. Always check for any obstructions or issues with the speedometer itself if the new cable does not resolve the problem.
