First you are going to have to raise the van on jack stands. Next place a small pail or drain pan under the trans pan and loosen the bolts along the sides an back so the fluid can drain. wait till the fluid coming out is only dripping and remove the rest of the bolts. Remove the bolts holding the filter to the trans and replace it with the new one. be sure that the gasket on top of the filter is aligned properly. peel the old gasket of the pan completely and put the new one on. bolt the pan back on first putting the bolts on hand tight and then tighten with the socket wrench till they are good and tight but not too tight or they might strip. next take the van off the jack stands and check in your owners manual for how much trans fluid should go in and then put that much in and check for leaks. be sure to put atf +3 in, any other kind of trans fluid cause problems. holding the brake run the van through the gears down to first once or twice to get the fluid pumping again. that should do it. good luck.

Being surprised my 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara (same as Tracker) had a drain plug for the transmission. I just change the fluid, not the filter or gasket.
what is the part no# for a replacement transmission filter, for a 2001 Pontiac gtp grand prix . Also how much transmission fluid does it take to change.thank you Tim
The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix typically requires about 12 quarts of automatic transmission fluid for a complete transmission fluid change, which includes both the transmission and the torque converter. However, for a fluid change without a complete flush, you may need around 4 to 6 quarts. Always refer to the owner's manual for the most accurate specifications.
Automatic transmission fluid.Automatic transmission fluid.
It does not contain oil. It contains Transmission Fluid. Pay someone to do this. Very nasty DIY job.
For a 1995 manual transmission grand am, the fluid capacity is 2.0 quarts for a complete drain and refill. The fluid type is 80W90 transmission oil.
