These auto transmissions are a real pain if you don't have a lift. The car must be level to check the fluid...but...this is how. The fluid should be at room temp. Raise the car, unscrew the plug that's on the tranny(real close to the oil drain plug). Lower the car, The level should be at the bottom of the hole, so if it runs out fairly slow...it is good. Put the plug back in. If it don't run out, add some dexron III or IV through the red fill plug on the top of the tranny until it does run out. put the plug in. "Sux don't it"
check your tranny fluid first
There is a tranny dipstick that is not visible from the top. If you look under the car there is a dipstick near the upper control arm.
In my grand am se I have to take it to a shop and they have to check the tranny fluid with a analizer. ya.
You can use any type of SAE certified transmission fluid in your 1997 Chevrolet Blazer. You can check the transmission fluid level with the transmission fluid dipstick.
Dextron withe mercon tranny fluid on manual transmissions.
In the 1997 Mercury Villager, the Transmission fluid dipstick is located on the driver's side of the engine just in front of and below the master cylinder/brake fluid check. The 97 Villager has a bulbous knob on top with no indication that it is the Transmission fluid.
That would be the 4L80E transmission.
That would be the 4L60E
first leave the car running, open the hood and towards the windshield you'll see a red dip stick that's where you check the tranny fluid. not all car`s have a dip stick tho
under the truck, on the side passenger side of the transmission case is a screw-in bolt for check/fill
That would be the 4L80E transmission
If the tranny is slipping, check the fluid level, then maybe change the filter. If the engine is missing, then tue it up, which means, plugs, cap, rotor, and maybe plug wires. The fuel filter would be something to look at, as well.
