it lets the computer know how warm or cold the trans fliud is so it can adjust the shifts accordingly
There is a small line that runs up the side of the engine, usually red take out the dip stick and whipe it on a clean cloth and if the fliud is red its the transmission, make sure the stick is out and use a funnel to pour the new trans fliud into the line, replace stick and your done.
