You can disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes and it will reset. Your best bet is to find out what code was set. You can diagnose the problem from the code.

To reset the service engine soon light on a 2004 GMC Envoy you can remove the ECU fuse. ECU stands for electronic control unit.

In a 2006 GMC Envoy, the starter is located on the driver's side of the engine, near the bottom of the engine block. re: 04 Envoy - my service 4wd light came on in the middle of a 10" blizzard. I researched it and took it to Jiffy Lube and had the front & read differential fluids changed. Light went off and has stayed off. Now my "service engine" light keeps coming on - I'm concerned that I may have a crack in the gas tank as I have read many many other Envoy owners have experienced.
There are pages and pages and items that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked for codes with a scan tool. After repair light can be shut off with scan tool.
Get a code reader from Autozone or a friend and plug it into the OBDII connection to read what code caused the check engine light to illuminate. A flashing check engine light indicates to NOT drive any further.
