I don't know if there is a better way but I have always just removed the brake fluid cap and used pliers (very gently so not score the caliper) and push it back in. Make sure not to contaminate the brake fluid when removing the cap and make sure to replace the cap when done. This eliminates the need to bleed the brakes.

After you remove the tire and the pad the caliper has to be twisted to compress. Yo will not be able to compress using a C clamp. I can't remember if it is clock wise or counter clock wise.
