get a chiltons repair manual for chevelles and it should show you the way to do it, can't really explain it on here, you need to be shown.
You Tube "Happywrenching.com". Incredible video on how to change rear drum brakes on a 99-03 Protege. Did the entire brake job myself! :)
Just google how to replace disc brakes for a good description with pictures, or drum brakes if you are doing the rears. Disc is very simple job (less than an hour), drum not so much (can take 4 hours the first time you do it).
Specfics depend specifically on what type of drum brakes you have. The simplest way is to lift the axle, remove the wheels and the drums, and keep one side intact while you do the other side. That way, you'll always have a reference right there.
there are two bolts you have to turn to loosen the shoes from the drum. located on the backing plate. also there might still be two or three screws holding the brake drum on located where your wheel bolts on. then it is just like any other drum brake job.
No, a disc brake repair job won't be anymore expensive than traditional brake jobs. If you have performance brakes or an ABS system, that would probably be the most expensive brake job.
You need direction since you have to contend with the adjusters and the park brake. Get a manual from the parts store and it will help you on the next job also.
take of rear brake drum,,,,disconnect flexy brake pipe,,,slacken brake shoes...2 bolts hold cylinder to back plate,,,they usually seized..tho...easy job tho,,you will have to bleed the brakes,,if your not familiar with cars...leave this one to a garage,,,cos its your brakes
Drum brake removal is a job which requires certain tools and some experience or knowledge on how to do it along with a place to perform this activity.
I am not a qualified expert on brakes but a brake job of that price seems fair if your brakes are completely shot and are in need of massive repair job.
No, as long as your pedal seemed good before the brake job, and you do not loosen the bleeder at all, you do not have to bleed the brakes.
Brake jobs are not a job to be done without a Manual. Your life and the lives of others and the life of your Automobile depend on them. Please purchase a CD Repair Manual and do the job correctly. Hope This Helps.
It is legal to do the brakes yourself, but you will still have to pass an inspection. If the job is poor you may be fined.
